Walmart Beauty Box

It's been a slow weekend food/fitness wise. My poor husband came down with some food poisoning and was nauseous and had a tummy-ache all day yesterday, and is mostly recovered today. He only wanted to eat bland food, so it was lots of rice and mashed potatoes with some meat for him. I mostly snacked on things. I don't think cooking for just myself is worth the effort, and so just used it an excuse not to cook. The only thing I made was orange cottage-cheese protein pancakes:

Whisk together 2 eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp salt, 2 tbsp sugar. Add to this 1/2 cup of flour and stir until just combined. Grease a pan and make as you do regular pancakes.

They were delicious! They were orange-y, fluffy and yummy. The only thing was that they did not have the texture of flour pancakes. They were a bit "stickier". It did not impact the taste, though - very tasty! Even poor sick hubby who initially made a face and groaned in food-poisoning-induced pain when I asked if he wanted pancakes ate three of them.

In other news, since I don't have food/fitness news to report, I thought I might report on something off-topic.

A few months ago, I had subscribed to the quarterly "Walmart Beauty Box". It costs $5 including shipping, and every 4 months, you get a box of mostly samples (and occasionally a full sized product). I have heard that the Target Beauty Box is far superior. It costs $10. However, it is not a subscription service. It just is available, and then when they run out, it's not available again till they have a new one. If you really like beauty stuff - there are plenty of better-quality beauty boxes available, for instance through e.l.f., Julep, BirchBox or Ipsy.

Here are some pics:

And here is the haul:
L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Shampoo and Conditioner (Sample Size)
Jergens BB Body Lotion (Sample Size)
Lady Gaga Fame Perfume (Sample Size)
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Dry Skin Lotion (Sample Size)
Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil for the Face (Sample Size)

and

Garnier Ultra Lift Sleeping Cream (Sample Size)
Ken Paves "You are Beautiful" shampoo, Conditioner and Hair Mask (Sample Size)
Coupon for a full-size dry spray anti-perspirant.

This is my second Walmart Beauty Box, It is definitely worth the $5, but I think I am going to cancel the service. It's mostly shampoo/conditioner samples or hand cream. I might try something else, we'll see...

Have you done subscription boxes before? What kinds? I know that there are several food-related ones, but I haven't tried any. If you have, I'd love to hear which ones and if you liked them.

I never even knew that Walmart and Target did beauty boxes! That's something I'll have to look into. I've gotten Julep's boxes before--I sign up for the free box and then cancel ;) I'm kind of addicted to nail polish. I love their boxes, but it's not in my budget right now to pay $25/mo for it.

I haven't tried Julep. My friend once tried a naturebox - a food subscription. It's monthly, and you get to pick your samples - so it's not that much of a surprise really. And it's overpriced IMHO.
